Coastside Brew Fest @ Half Moon Bay: Everyone from Ben Franklin to Homer Simpson knows that beer is great. Thankfully, the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is holding its 5th Annual Coastside Brew Fest this Saturday, October 20, and SamTrans is on hand to make sure you can try as many beers from the 22 breweries represented there as your doctor and conscience recommend. The 17 runs right past the brewery, and if you aren’t lucky enough to live on the coast, you can get to it by transferring from the 294 from the south end or the 110, 112 or 118 from the north.
Race and Politics @ San Mateo: Election Day is just around the corner, so it’s as good a time as any to have a frank discussion of how race and politics intersect. This Saturday, October 20, the San Mateo Main Library will host a panel discussion sponsored by the African American Community Health Advisory Committee and the African American Library Advisory Committee. You can get to this informative discussion of matters vital to our community and nation easily by taking Caltrain to the San Mateo Station or by taking the SamTrans 250, 292 or 295 (Because here’s James Baldwin’s reaction to you saying you can’t get a ride).
Home Show @ San Jose: If you’re looking for inspiration for your next home improvement, then you’re already planning on attending this weekend’s San Jose Fall Home Show. Whether your style is Neo-Victorian, Retro-Gothic or Prairie School Brutalist, you’ll be able to talk to knowledgeable professionals and have a wide range of vendors to peruse. Held at the McEnery Convention Center, you can take Caltrain to the San Jose Diridon Station and be ready to talk about faucet options the whole ride home.
