WEKFEST ROLLS INTO SAN JOSE: The “Dopest Car Show in the Nation” will park itself at the San Jose Convention Center on Sunday, July 1. Billed as the “Bay Area’s most anticipated automotive gathering,” Wekfest will feature a haven for automotive enthusiasts.
Wekfest travels all across the country and is famous for putting on an exhibition for individuals and businesses from the aftermarket automotive industry. “Careful screening and review” goes into selecting who gets to exhibit at these events, according to organizers.
Wekfest runs 1 p.m.-6p.m. and those who want to leave their infinitely less cool car at home can hop on Caltrain, disembark at the San Jose Diridon Station near SAP Center and get on one of VTA’s light rail trains. A Mountain View or Alum Rock train will get you to the convention center station.
FILLMORE JAZZ FEST: The sweet sounds of jazz will fill more than a dozen streets of San Francisco when the 34th annual free-admission Fillmore Jazz Festival returns to The City on Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1. Visitors can enjoy live music from multiple stages, check out arts and crafts booths, and choose from many different food offerings. The festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
To avoid traffic in the neighborhood, we suggest taking Caltrain into San Francisco. Get off at the northern end of the line at the Fourth and King station, and then catch a Muni bus to get to the festival’s epicenter, near Fillmore Street.
NEW SAMTRANS ROUTES: SamTrans this week launched two new routes to help get you where you need to go locally and, quite literally, just about anywhere in the world. The ECR Rapid travels from the Redwood City Transit Center to Daly City BART serving stops along El Camino Real, while Route SFO runs regular direct service between the Millbrae Transit Center and all San Francisco International Airport terminals.
The ECR Rapid operates from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. The ECR is currently SamTrans’ highest performing route, with approximately 9,000 riders per weekday. The new addition is intended to provide an express option for new and existing riders seeking to travel longer distances.
Route SFO runs from 5:45 a.m. to midnight on weekdays, 8:20 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. on Sundays. The route is designed to provide an easy connection from Caltrain to SFO, as the bus comes directly to the Millbrae Station platform. The buses running this route have a special wrap and a luggage rack for rider’s convenience. In order to generate interest, the route will be free of charge from now until end of service on July 7.
