School has been out for a couple weeks and summer officially arrives Thursday, June 21. This is all great news for teens and youngsters likely basking in the thrill of being away from the classroom, but maybe not so much for parents and older siblings bracing for inevitable chauffeur duty.

If you want to instill some independence in your child, you might want to considering buying him or her a SamTrans Summer Youth Pass. The pass allows unlimited rides on any SamTrans route all summer – from now through Aug. 31 – and is available for $40 to riders 18 and younger.

Kids can hop around the Peninsula and visit museums, libraries, movie theaters, shopping malls, entertainment options and many other destinations by riding SamTrans throughout San Mateo County and the Coastside.

Passes can be purchased online, at SamTrans headquarters in San Carlos, by mail and through fax. Full purchasing details are available on the SamTrans website by visiting the Summer Youth Pass page.

SamTrans headquarters is located at: 1250 San Carlos Ave. We’re open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Customer service team members can assist with trip planning and are available by calling 1-800-660-4287 (TTY 650-508-6448).
