SamTrans and a rolling art exhibit will be in attendance at the San Mateo County STEM Fair & Arts Expo this Sunday, March 4.
SamTrans staff, including yours truly, will be there showing off our gussied up bus from the 2017 Arts Takes a Bus Ride, ours and the San Mateo County Office of Education’s annual contest that challenges county students in grades 1-6 to be creative and artistic, with one winner from each grade getting their winning drawing placed onto the side of one of our buses.
At the fair, students can visit our booth outside Fiesta Hall, step into the bus, pick up some SamTrans swag, color a picture and pick up a contest entry form. Staff and our youth mobility coordinator will be able to answer questions about our services and routes.
Most importantly, attendees can get an up-close look at what their potential future masterpiece could look like on the sides of our hulking bus. The wrapped bus is currently decked out in last year’s “The Magic of SamTrans” theme.
This year’s Art Takes a Bus Ride theme is the “The Wild Side of SamTrans” (think wild animals and mystical creatures). What would a SamTrans bus be like if it were a creature roaming the streets? Would the bus have sharp teeth? Or fur, flippers, a trunk and big pointy antlers?
There’s still time to enter the contest. All submissions must be received by close of business on Friday, March 23, and can be sent either through participating schools, or directly to the San Mateo County Office of Education, 101 Twin Dolphin Dr., Redwood City, CA 94065.
The winning entrants will be honored with special recognition certificates at the SamTrans Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, June 6. The board meeting begins at 2 p.m. and takes place at SamTrans headquarters on 1250 San Carlos Avenue in San Carlos.
