Turkey Trot: If you’re the kind of person who thinks calories apply to Thanksgiving (I’m pretty sure science has proven that gravy neutralizes them, and I don’t want to hear otherwise) then you should check out the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Turkey Trot for your Turkey Day pre-game. The event offers a 5k, 10k and a fun run for kids and people who think those two words go together. The San Jose Diridon Caltrain Station is just a short walk from the festivities, so you can give your body one last hurrah before tryptophan-induced hibernation sets in.
Union Square Ice Rink: As we approach Thanksgiving, Christmas is waiting in the wings to dominate your December (Seriously Cheryl, cool it with Jingle Bell Rock already, it’s too soon). This Wednesday, the Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square is open for business, and will have the debut performance of the Aladdin-themed skate session that will happen every Wednesday. “What does Aladdin have to do with Christmas?” you may ask. Stow it Grinchy, and take Caltrain to BART, get off at Powell, and let your heart grow two sizes larger.
The Way to San Jose: If you haven’t gotten out to The Way to San Jose at Diridon Station yet, there’s still time. Find fascinating exhibits on how transportation has evolved over the years from Ohlone history to the modern day. While in the neighborhood, you can also take the Polar Express Trolley run by the VTA, running free every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through December 31.
