Week In Transit

Hands-on-History in Redwood City: The San Mateo County History Museum will be conducting a workshop on painting Catrinas, the iconic Day of the Dead figure. On Saturday, September 9, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Maestra Lourdes Morantes of Casa Circulo Cultural will teach participants about this fascinating cultural tradition. Contact the Museum for tickets and don’t forget to take Caltrain to the Redwood City Station.

Stiff Little Fingers at Slims: Some of you are riding the train to work right now thinking about bills and deadlines, but deep down you know you’re still punk. Thankfully, Stiff Little Fingers are playing at Slims on Sunday, September 10, as part of their 40th Anniversary Tour. So prove to your 17-year-old self you aren’t a sellout, impress that snooty guy at the local record shop, and take Caltrain to BART so you can walk through the Mission knowing that you’re cool enough to belong. Fair warning, Caltrain doesn’t make stops in Ulster, alternative or otherwise.

Construction at Hayward Park Station: As of Tuesday, September 5, parking spaces 70 through 155 at the Hayward Park Station will be closed to accommodate construction equipment for the 25th Avenue Grade Separation Project. These spaces will be unavailable until the end of the project in 2020, which is designed to make the crossing safer for drivers and pedestrians as well as relieve traffic congestion. Please adjust your commute accordingly, and don’t forget to consider SamTrans routes 53 & 292 that service the station.
