Although we are approaching mid-July, there is still plenty of summer left to get into some fun activities and events by taking SamTrans. Riding the bus can be a relaxing and stress-free way to discover new shops, events and destinations around San Mateo County.  Here are a few of my recommendations for things to do the rest of this summer by taking SamTrans:

dogsurfingWorld Dog Surfing Championships: Dogs have been on wagons, roller blades, and even skateboards, but have you seen one riding the ocean waves on a surfboard? On Saturday, August 5, the NorCal Dog Surfing event & World Dog Surfing Championships will be on the Northern California coast at Linda Mar Beach (Pacifica State Beach) in Pacifica. You’ll see cute pups surfing, a costume contest and you can learn about pet adoptions. Dog surfers will also bring home the gold for charity. You can help local charities raise money by sponsoring a contestant or a team. Take SamTrans along the coast on the 17 or 110 to see the surf dogs take on the waves!

Blues & BBQ Festival: The Redwood City Police Activity League presents the Blues, Music, Arts & BBQ Festival 2017 at Courthouse Square in Downtown Redwood City from July 21 & July 22. The festival will be in its 12th year with a special rendition of the event that features women in the forefront by celebrating Women in the Blues, with musicians from the SF Peninsula and beyond. You’ll see legendary Sugar Pie DeSanto, Lady Bianca, Margie Turner, and more as this is an exceptional roster of female talent. Along with wonderful live music, there will be delicious food including Northern California’s finest meat offerings to satisfy the barbecue cravings you’ve been having all summer. Art will be featured on the square starting Friday evening and all day on Saturday. Enjoy the beautiful summer days in downtown Redwood City as proceeds from this fun, family festival will directly benefit the youth programs of the Redwood City Police Activities League. Take SamTrans ECR route and you’ll be at the festival in no time.

Bacon & Brew Fest: If you are still craving for the summer fun, it doesn’t have to stop in August. The Bacon & Brew Fest will be back for its 5th annual event in San Mateo on Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.! This year the event has expanded and partnered with the San Mateo County Events Center. It will be held in the Central Mall at the Event Center, so come and enjoy some craft brews, food trucks, and entertainment, so pig out! Summer doesn’t have to end if you don’t want it to. Hop off at the Hillsdale Station, take SamTrans ECR bus route, and a brief walk to the event center. You’ll know when you’re close when you smell the bacon!
