Mountain View Obon Festival: The Mountain View Buddhist Temple is hosting the 2017 Obon Festival and Bazaar on July 15 & 16. Food, games, exhibits, as well as entertainment like taiko drumming will be a part of this traditional festival. This event brings people from all over the community with various backgrounds to learn more about the Japanese tradition that celebrates Japanese culture and Japanese-American history. You can take the Mountain View Caltrain Station, ride the East Bayshore mvGO bus to Shoreline Boulevard @ Terra Bella Avenue or VTA 34 to Montecito Avenue & Shoreline Boulevard, and walk about 5 minutes towards Stierlin Road.

Astronomer Andrew Fraknoi: Eclipse Talk: Are you into astronomy? Do you want to learn more about how the eclipse works? Astronomer Dr. Andrew Fraknoi will be at the Menlo Park Library on Thursday, July 13 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. to entertain and educate us on an illustrated, nontechnical talk, on the “all-American eclipse” that will be coming on August 21. Learn how eclipses work, how to observe the eclipse and the sun safely, as well as a book signing with Kepler’s Books available for purchase. Take a look at the event details and reserve your free ticket. The Menlo Park Library is a short five minute walk from the Menlo Park Caltrain Station down towards Alma Street.

SamTrans Vote to Eliminate Routes: Beginning August 6, SamTrans will no longer operate routes 11, 43 and 89 as the SamTrans Board unanimously voted to discontinue the three routes due to low ridership and high operational costs. The elimination of these routes will save SamTrans approximately $170,000. Riders who used Route 11 are advised to consider other alternative routes such as 110, 112 or 120. Route 43 is covered by ECR, 38, 133, 140, 141, and 398, while Route 89 is covered by 82, 83, 84, 86, 88, 286 and 296. You can visit the SamTrans website to consider other routes for your trips as well.
