MUSEUM WEEKEND, BEER FRIDAY, IMPROVED BART BIKE PARKING AND SAMTRANS CAC OPPORTUNITY

By Tianna Nguy, Communications Intern

Free Museum Weekend: Did you know that if you are a holder of Bank of America or Merrill Lynch credit cards and debit cards you get free admission to six Bay Area museums in the first weekend of the month? This July 1 & 2, take the opportunity to visit the Contemporary Jewish Museum, the de Young Museum, and the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. If you’d rather head south, check out the San Jose Museum of Art, the Tech Museum of Innovation and the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. Participate in this great offer to explore the fine arts in the Bay Area. Take Caltrain to any of your destinations to save time to spend at the museum.

Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company will be hosting an admission-free evening of live music and food trucks from Off the Grid’s lineup, and serving up an award-winning selection of sustainable handcrafted beer and root beer from 4 p.m. to10 p.m. Get off at the San Carlos Caltrain Station and hop onto SamTrans Route 398 to head to the brewery where festivities will take place.

Improved BART Bike Parking: BART is launching a project to make bike parking more secure and convenient at BART stations. These projects include testing new and more secure types of bike racks, which you can view here. There will be an expansion of bike parking at nine stations and mini ramps installed on the stair channels that will help riders transport their bike up and down stairways. BART hopes to make it easier for passengers to park their bikes at stations rather than bringing them aboard trains in hopes that it will open up more capacity on the train themselves (especially during rush hour commutes). BART understands that not everyone has that option, so various designs have been planned to improve and expand their bike program to help all those who take public transit with their bikes.

SamTrans Seeking Committee Members: Public members interested in providing input on local transit programs are encouraged to volunteer for the SamTrans Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). The 15-member CAC meets monthly and is responsible for offering feedback on the needs of transit users and informing San Mateo County residents of transit programs on the Peninsula. It also acts in an advisory capacity to the SamTrans’ Board of Directors.  Each CAC member receives a free yearly bus pass to use on the SamTrans system. The CAC meets on the last Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the San Mateo County Transit District headquarters at 1250 San Carlos Avenue in San Carlos. For more information, visit www.samtrans.com/cac or call 650-508-6279.
