Though summer is drawing to a close, there’s still time to enjoy the warm weather and exciting seasonal events. Every year, cities throughout the Peninsula launch free concerts for the public to enjoy. Though we’re nearing the middle of August, it’s not too late to partake in the musical fun. Join the cities in celebrating what’s left of the season, and make the trip to the gigs an easy one by taking public transit.
The Summer Concert Series presented by Foster City showcases bands at Leo J. Ryan Park Amphitheater on Fridays through August 19. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., audiences can revel in the talent of groups from a diverse set of music tastes. Whether it’s pop rock or funky blues, people from all over the Bay Area are invited to listen to the delightful tunes. Concert attendees can also travel to the park with ease by taking SamTrans. After riding the ECR bus to Hillsdale Boulevard, a three-minute walk to the stop on 31st Street will allow for passengers to take bus Route251 into Foster City. This route contains a stop less than a minute away from Leo J. Ryan Park.
For sweet-sounding entertainment on a weekday, San Mateo’s Central Park Music Series offers concerts on Thursdays. Until August 18, evenings in Central Park will be bursting with summertime fun as artists play genres ranging from swing to party. Spectators are welcome to socialize, spend time with family, and dance to all of their favorite songs. Avoid the stress of traffic congestion by riding the ECR bus to 9th Avenue, only a three-minute walk from the front of Central Park.
The excitement continues through the end of August with a Summer Concert Series in Menlo Park. On Tuesday nights, from Aug. 16 to 30, Kelly Park will radiate with sensational music. Members of the public are encouraged to get comfortable on the lawn, as well as eat from on-site food trucks. Participating local bands each specialize in various styles to ensure that there will be a performance for everyone to enjoy. Take SamTrans to Kelly Park by riding the ECR bus to Quarry Road and Stanford Shopping Center. From there, Route281 will drop off passengers at the Onetta Harris Community Center, directly in front of the park.
